Celebrating Porsche History

Few brands represent the pinnacle of performance and luxury in the automotive industry and popular culture like the Porsche brand. At Porsche North Houston, we are incredibly proud to represent and introduce our clients to such an iconic brand. Because we are the only Houston, TX Porsche Center, our sales and service team want to share the Porsche brand's amazing history.

History of Porsche

This legendary brand, which was known officially as Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH, was founded by Ferdinand Porsche in 1931. The company really began as a carmaker in 1948 with construction of the first Porsche 356. Over the years, the automaker has created some amazing new luxury cars for drivers across Houston, TX and have been consistent auto industry innovators. The brand introduced the world’s first production sports car with exhaust turbocharger and pressure regulator and one of the first clutch-less manual transmissions. The Porsche brand has also dominated the racing industry including many wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the European Rally circuit.

History of the Models from Porsche

There have many famous Porsche models throughout the years, far too many to list all of them here. However, it all started with the Porsche 356, a lightweight and nimble two-door sports car which was produced from 1948-1963.

Next, we have perhaps the most famous sports car in the world, the Porsche 911. First introduced in 1964, the rounded appearance of the Porsche 911 is easy to spot, and makes it instantly recognizable. In fact, the Global Automotive Elections Foundation ranked it as the fifth most influential car of the 20^th century.

The Porsche 959, which came on the scene in 1986, was the world's fastest street-legal production car with a top speed of 195-mph. Finally, there is the current Porsche Cayenne, which combines legendary V8 performance with the modern demand for SUVs. The 2017 Porsche Cayenne, which is available to drivers in Houston, TX, comes in eight trim levels, including turbo and e-hybrid trims.
